A big force in the R&B space, Phabo serves you with that nostalgic R&B feel with today’s sound. Often fused with bass-heavy instrumentals, topped with sleek distinctive vocals, undoubtedly paving his own lane in the space. Notably, a well-credited master of the pen, Phabo has song written for the likes Tinashe, Kyle Dion and Jean Deaux.
Soulquarius was the project that was recommended to me, an album that really does deserve it’s flowers, and put me onto Alex Vaughn & Destin Conrad. Favourites from the project include “LNF’, “Slippery” & “Polaris”. Don’t Get Too Cozy, his second joint released, features gems like “Casamigos”, “XTC”, “Luv Songs(Unruly)” & “Express Yourself”.
Louie Lastic, who has produced for the likes of Ambré, Destin Conrad & Jordan Ward, seems to be a producer Phabo collaborates with often. Producing the majority of both albums, Soulquarius & Don’t Get Too Cozy, would be interesting to know how that collaboration formed.
PHABO has a big Soundcloud presence that i really like, serving us gems, giving us a more raw version to his sound. He often shares his influences on socials, which gives us a picture behind his art and where he gets his inspiration from; the late D’angelo seems to be an avid influence.
Notably, the song “The Web”, from the EP Before I Let Her Go, sounds very much like it’s been sampled from Mac Ayers’ song “Every Time”. The Sample isnt credited but im intrigued to find out if it actually is, let us know if you hear it too!
This specially curated capsule explores Phabo’s discography, highlighting tracks he has released, with gems on Soundcloud & tracks he has collaborated on. Features include Eric Bellinger, ELHAE, Shreta, Jose Lamercier, Arin Ray & many others.
